Archive for September, 2011

I spent two different afternoons coloring this version of Section 3 of the 2011 Mandala of the Year (MotY). Feel free to download and color your own version. The idea of the MotY is to color one section per month so that by the end of the year you can put them all together to create one large mandala.

Here’s the progression from beginning to end of Section 3…

I recently completed this version of the “Fractal” asymmetry mandala (my own design) and it is on display throughout September 2011 at The Arts Center in downtown Corvallis, Oregon. The exhibition is entitled “Calculated Result – Mathematical Art”. I juried in 3 pieces for this show. All of which I’ll post on this blog. Today, it’s Riddle Me This’s turn.

For “Fractal” I used the repeated pattern of a circle and two lines pointing downward and outward. With each iteration, another version goes inward on the left line and outward on the right line.  I placed random starts of the pattern throughout the painting. I painted it with acrylics.
