I focused today on fine-tuning the color of the orbs done on Day 3.  To create shadow and deeper contrast, I used purple (black grape for cool colors, black cherry for warm colors).  After the shading, I went over each orb with the original color, which amazingly tones down the purple, making the original color a darker version of itself.  It may seem a bit drastic at first to add purple, especially on the lighter colors, however the end result is a richer color with a dimensional look to it.

Today I added colors to the attached orbs in the upper portion of Section 1 of the 2011 Mandala of the Year.

I use prismacolor pencils for coloring.  For the orange orbs, I used canary yellow and scarlet lake.  For the green orbs, I used canary yellow and copenhagen blue.

I started a new project this year called the Mandala of the Year, where I create one section of a mandala per month.  Each month the design will be different, and unknown to me until I sit down each month to create it :-) .  I hope that many people will participate and post their colorings on my Mandala of the Year Flickr page.

I also intended this project to be one of inner reflection for me and to change my life for the better so I can live a more wholehearted life.  I’ve chosen to use Jampolsky’s Love is Letting Go of Fear book as my guide for this process…as synchronicity would have it, the book contains 12 lessons…1 lesson per section. :-)

Lesson 1 is entitled:  All the I give is given to myself.

Any insights I gain from coloring this section, I’ll post as comments on this month’s section of the Mandala of the Year, where you can download the section for yourself to color.

Happy Coloring!
