Today I finished coloring Section 1 of the 2011 Mandala of the Year. Yeah! I spent today coloring all the little orbs that seem to float above the whole section. In choosing the colors, I decided to use mostly complementary colors. For most of the orbs, whatever color it hovers over, I used its complementary color.

Now onto Section 2, which will be available for download on Tuesday, February 1.

Today I filled in the bar separating the upper and lower portions; as well as the triangular shapes that are attached to the orbs in the upper portion. I embossed ‘to give is to receive’ using an embossing tool from my husband leather tool collection. I used that title because I’m reading Jampolsky’s Love is Letting Go of Fear book, a chapter per month in correlation with each section of the 2011 Mandala of the Year. This month’s lesson is the Universal Law: To Give is to Receive.

Today I finished the last stripe in the bottom half of Section 1 of the 2011 Mandala of the Year. The idea to do a blue and white striped pole just popped into my head and I just had to go with it. :-)

Yesterday I did some coloring on Section 1 of the Mandala of the Year. For the seventh stripe, I drew partial spirals; giving each spiral its own color.

Today I worked on the 4th stripe from the left. Here I wanted to make little overlapping tiles…it almost looks like an image of data processing. With this slide show I take you step by step through my process of coloring this stripe.

Today I worked on the 3rd stripe from the left on the Section 1 piece of the Mandala of the Year. For this stripe, I went with angular stripes in somewhat of a contrast from what I did yesterday.

Today (1/14/2011) I worked on the 2nd stripe from the left in the lower half of Section 1. Here I created a fire-like background with a curvy green thingy. I use prismacolor color pencils when I color…for now they are the best pencils I’ve ever used.

Started coloring the lower half of section 1 today.  In keeping with coloring for 15-30 minutes a day, it works out well to color one stripe a day for the lower section.  Rather than color the stripe all one color I decided to draw a triangular/saw tooth pattern into the first stripe…and then I played with some colors I rarely use.
