Archive for November, 2010

Today I finished off another background section…the lower right hand side.  I used prismacolor canary yellow, yellow ocher, and black cherry to color in the background sections.  See part 4 for the step-by-step photos for the first background section.

Today I colored in the second of four background sections.  I used the same colors as yesterday’s coloring however in the end I added a top layer of yellow ocher to tone down the brightness of the canary yellow to the section I did yesterday and today’s.  I primarily use prismacolor pencils.

The background area of this mandala is divided into 4 sections.  Today I worked on the upper left hand section, which includes the area within each triangle section of the center red diamond.

BTW…the message for this mandala is “Whatever you believe…IS”.  I’ll write more about this in a future posting.

I finally figured out how to take clearer close-ups with my camera.  Hopefully this will make it easier for you to see the details.

So today I colored in the narrow striping in the center diamond area.  I gave it a yellow-gold color.

That’s it for today.

Today I finished the red triangle sections of the inner diamond of this mandala.  I used four prismacolor pencils to create the red: scarlet lake & black cherry for the base layer and crimson red & black grape for the top layer.

This is part of the BIMLE series, #12. It represents how we create what we believe. I’ve struggled with the question of life. Why are we here? What are we suppose to do? What are we to believe? A friend told me that “life just is…it’s whatever you want it to be”, which reminded me of the Marvin Hamlisch song from the movie “Kotch”… “Life is what you make it, and what you make it, is up to you”.

On November 15, 2010 I started coloring this mandala using prismacolor pencils.  This slide show shows my progress on the 15th through 11/23.

Even if it’s only for 15 minutes, allow yourself the time, joy, and well-being of coloring.

I created “The Migrate Inn” for The Arts Center silent auction and sale “Where Birds Dream”.  About 80 artists in the Corvallis/Albany/Philomath area made pieces in their medium of choice for this exhibit which opens November 19, 2010 and runs through December 24, 2010.  The silent auction runs from November 19 – December 10.  If you’re in the area, come to the opening reception scheduled for November 19 @ 5:30 pm.

As The Mandala Lady, I normally create 2D mandala pieces however for this project I decided to go 3-D and explore the motif of circles as it relates to this theme.

This slideshow documents my progress…
